Philadelphia Sixers rally late to win 106-98 over the Toronto Raptors: NBA Recap
Nick Young scored 23 points to lift Philadelphia 76ers to a 106-98 win over the Toronto Raptors here at the Wells Fargo Center on Tuesday night. It was a close call for most of the game until the Sixers rallied down the stretch
to snatch a win.
Jason Richardson posted 21 point, Jrue Holiday had a double-double with 19 points and 12 assists while Thaddeus Young scored 18 points and grabbed 7 rebounds for the Sixers, their third win in a row.
DeMar DeRozan was the pick of the Raptors with 24 points, Andrea Bargnani scored 22 points and 7 rebounds while Jonas Valanciunas chipped in with 11 points and as many rebounds on the night.
The first half was pretty even; the Raptors were sharp in the first period and outscored the Philadelphia Sixers by seven. The Phillies came back in the second quarter and made it all square by halftime.
Evan Turner made a pull up jump shot early in the first period to tie the score on 4. The Raptors found their rhythm soon and went for an instant 10-0 burst to jump up 14-4. A Dominic McGuire jumper put the Raptors up 18-8 before
the Phillies scored the next 9 points to cut the deficit down to 17-18. But the Raptors kept scoring the buckets and were leading 29-22 by the end of the period.
The Raptors were looking sharp and two free throws by Linas Kleiza had them up 37-30 early in the second period. The Phillies however were close by and started slashing the deficit. A dunk by Young had them trailing by 35-40 and
minutes later Jason Richardson nailed a three pointer to make it a two point game at 42-44. The Sixers got ahead after a Jrue Holiday shot from downtown before Jose Calderon knocked down a three pointer near the end of the period to tie the score at 51.
The Sixers were up 65-64 early in the third period before the Raptors went wild with a 12-0 run to jump to a 76-65 lead. A couple of free throws by Kyle Lowry pushed their advantage to 80-71; before the Sixers pulled back two to
head into the final period trailing 73-80.
DeRozan made a floating jump shot to put the Raptors up 85-78 early in the fourth quarter and another jumper by him moments later had them leading by 87-80. The 76ers started cutting the deficit and Young scored four straight points
to make it 84-87. Later in the period, Young tied the score on 92 with a bucket from behind the arc and a Lowry jump shot tied the score on 96, with less than two minutes on regulation.
The Raptors, having led for most of the second half, could not close out the game as Sixers went for a 10-2 burst to win 106-98 eventually.
