Philadelphia76ers humiliate Atlanta Hawks at home 98-87: NBA Recap
On Saturday night, the Philadelphia76ers put up yet another dazzling show to knock over the Atlanta Hawks, 98-87. The Hawks were humbled in front of the home crowd at Philips Arena, Atlanta. The game had few dramatic shifts especially
in the last quarter but it was the Sixers who eventually had the final laugh.
The Sixers with 17 victories under their belt now stand tall at third in the Eastern Conference.
Six Philadelphia players, including four subs, reached double scoring figures on the night. Rookie Nikola Vucevic was on song as he recorded a career high 15 points; Louis Williams, Thaddeus Young and Spencer Hawes scored 14 apiece
while guard Evan Turner added 11.
"Tonight was one of those games where somebody was going to lose two in a row, and it wasn't going to be us," Philadelphia's Lou Williams said.
Jodie Meeks also came up with 10 points in the stupendous victory for Sixers, who also got 9 points, 10 dimes and 8 assists from Andre Iguodala.
The Hawks performance was marked by the bolstering show from Jeff Teague. The guard was dominant on the night and finished with a game-high 21 points. Joe Johnson scored 16 and forward Ivan Johnson posted 14 points-13 rebounds
for Hawks.
The game started evenly as both teams matched each other well. However, by the end of 1st frame, the Hawks were ahead by a slender margin of 21-20.
The Sixers made their move in the second quarter. After facing some resistance early in the period, they reeled off a 9 points unanswered run to start with and then closed out the half on a 15-8 burst, that put the Hawks on the
back foot.
At half time, the visitors were leading by 57-41.
The Sixers came strongly at Hawks in the third quarter as well and augmented their lead further to 81-62 as the teams entered into the last 12 minutes.
With 7:50 in hand, the Hawks baffled the Sixers with a 13-4 run but that couldn’t inflict much damage to the double digit lead taken by the Sixers earlier as it brought the score to 75-85. The Hawks tried to eat away at the rest
of lead but their effort proved to be in vain. With time running out they could only narrow the margin of their defeat. The final score Sixers 98 and Hawks 87.
The 76ers coach Doug Collins was contended with his team performance;
"Four games in six nights, the emotional game [Friday] night against Miami . . . I can't tell you how proud I am of the guys."
