Philip Humber shines as Chicago White Sox defeat Arizona Diamondbacks 8-2 – MLB Update
Chicago White Sox starter, Philip Humber had a remarkable day as he struck-out five batters in just over seven innings pitches and threw the ball with an ERA of 2.90 in the White Sox 8-2 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks at Chase Field, Arizona on June
19.
The White Sox won the three-game series 2-1 against the Diamondbacks.
First three innings of the game were score-less as the batters failed to play shots in the gap. A.J. Pierzynski popped out to third base and Humber grounded out to second base. Same is the case with the Diamondbacks’ batters as they also got out at various
field spots as Josh Collmenter was grounded out to second base and Ryan Roberts lined out to right-field at the bottom of the third inning.
The White Sox batters scored in the fourth inning and got an initial 1-0 lead. Alexei Ramirez was grounded out to short-stop and Juan Pierre posted one run. In the fifth and sixth inning, the pitchers delivered the ball beautifully and controlled the scoring
shots.
Humber gave two runs on seven hits including two earned runs and permitted only one walk on his 105 pitches. Humber expressed his excitement and said, “We had a lot of guys who contributed today. It's good getting out of here with a win in the series against
a good team.”
During the seventh inning, the White Sox took a 3-0 lead when Paul Konerko struck a solo homer (386 feet) towards left-field and Alex Rios hit a one-run homer (406 feet) to left-field. In the eighth inning, the White Sox batters exploded five runs and the
Diamondbacks posted two runs to reduce their lead 8-2.
Pierre, Omar Vizquel, Konerko, Brent Lillibridge and Rios each singled to complete a five-run campaign for the White Sox. On the other side, Ryan Roberts doubled to deep right centre and Gerardo Parra added one run. The second and last run of the game was
taken by Roberts when Justin Upton singled to centre-field.
The White Sox manager, Ozzie Guillen said, “When the games start against the Cubs, it's a different ball game. You've got to step it up a notch because that's as close as you come to the playoffs.”
No run was added from either side in the ninth inning.
