Philip Humber shines as Chicago White Sox defeat New York Yankees 2-0 – MLB Update
Philip Humber outclassed the supposedly invulnerable New York Yankees on Monday, April 25 to secure a celebrated 2-0 victory for Chicago White Sox at Yankee Stadium, New York.
Humber’s performance was a remarkable manifestation of an accomplished pitcher as he threw an awe-inspiring 18 no-hitter. This comes as a record in the history of White Sox. Humber received approval for his feat from both his team and rival camp.
"He had command of all four of his pitches and didn't really make any mistakes in the middle of the plate," added Yankees’ catcher Russell Martin of Humber. "For the most part, he was deceptive, his fastball was moving and he threw his back-door curveball
well against lefties. He was just mixing speeds really well. You've got to tip your cap to that guy."
Humber helped the White Sox improve to 2-6 on this 11-game, three-city road trip.
It was A.J. Burnett who formally kicked off the game by pitching for New York, faced by Juan Pierre of Chicago. Burnett easily contained the White Sox batters and pitched a scoreless first inning. When Philip Humber came, he was splendid. If his team’s offence
had a slow start, he made sure that an aggressive defence will eventually help them attain something. The strategy worked out.
Chicago’s offence started their campaign for success in the fourth inning when Adam Dunn grounded out to second where Carlos Quentin scored, leaving Burnett visibly displeased. The White Sox 1-0 lead, in usual circumstances, would not be of a major worry
for the Yankees, having a renowned offence. Yankees could have easily stormed back into the game, but nothing that they did proved equivalent to any success.
Once Chicago was 1-0, Yankees struggled to play Humber who was fast and furious. The pitcher radiated confidence and pitched with such a swift speed that hardly anyone could even touch the ball. The 1-0 lead was successfully maintained up until the 9th
inning when something more was in store for the Yankees.
Paul Konerko singled to left where Lillibridge scored the decisive run for the White Sox, punishing the Yankees’ pitcher Rafael Soriano. When Sergio Santos replaced Humber, he made sure that nothing went wrong. Santos left the Yankees helpless and contained
them with sheer success, as Chicago took a 2-0 victory over the Yankees.
