Philip Humber sparks as Chicago White Sox beat Boston Red Sox, 10-7 – MLB Update
Chicago White Sox’ starter, Philip Humber pitched dominantly right through his seven innings and struck-out five batters in the White Sox 10-7 victory against the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park, Boston on May 31.
Humber threw the ball with an ERA of 3.06 and allowed four runs on nine hits with four earned runs. He gave away only one walk on his 97 pitches.
First inning went score-less but the White Sox started their second inning with a blast and contributed four runs. Gordon Beckham singled to left-field and Paul Konerko scored a single run. The second run was taken by A.J. Pierzynski on the ground hit of
Brent Morel towards third base. Beckham and Morel both added two runs in the bottom of their second inning to give the White Sox a 4-0 lead.
Both teams contributed one run in the third inning and moved the score-board 5-1. For the White Sox, Pierzynski hit a ground rule double to deep right-field and Konerko scored one run. Jason Varitek hit a home-run (399 feet) towards right-field and opened
the scoring account for the Red Sox.
During the fourth inning, the White Sox batters posted one run to get a 6-1 lead. Morel scored a single run on the drive of Alexei Ramirez to centre-field. The fifth inning remained empty due to impressive throws of the pitchers. The White Sox Manager Ozzie
Guillen said, “Phil was outstanding. The guy keeps showing people, and proving himself, pitching against a good-hitting ballclub and doing it right.”
The White Sox raised their lead 10-1 in the sixth inning when Adam Dunn, Beckham, Juan Pierre and Ramirez each added four runs jointly. No score was contributed in the seventh inning from either side. On the other side, the Red Sox posted four runs in the
eighth to cut their shortfall 10-5. Josh Reddick, Drew Sutton and Kevin Youkilis each scored his individual run while David Ortiz homered (366 feet) to left-field.
In the ninth inning, the score-card moved to 10-7 when the batters added two runs for the Red Sox. Jed Lowrie and Varitek posted these two runs in the end.
