Philip Joper, Peter Gabriel march into Men’s Doubles main round of Djarum Indonesia Open 2012
Men’s Doubles campaigners Philip Joper Escueta-Magnaye Peter Gabriel of Philippine surged into main draw of Djarum Indonesia Open by beating Rahmat Adianto-Angriawan Berry on June 12, 2012.
This final encounter of qualifying round lasted for 40 minutes and was resolved with concluding figures of 21-14, 12-21 and 15-21.
Both teams snapped each other’s heels all the way to three gruelling sets and made this contest memorable.
Now the duo will face the twosome of Wijaya Rendra and Rian Sukmawan in first round of main draw.
Earlier, the team from the Philippines continued their successful run in qualifying round and emerged as winners despite of losing opening set of the match.
The Indonesian duo, which was also seeded three in this round, started their marathon by claiming first match point but they could not rise on their toes when it mattered.
In first set, Rahmat Adianto and Angriawan Berry displayed remarkable coordination in the beginning and gained a five-point advantage in no time.
They maintained their supremacy until mid-game break and then started third quarter of the set with great confidence.
Tough, the opposing team narrowed the gap at 15-14 but they wrapped the show by clinching last six points in a row.
The partnership of Rahmat and Angriawan flourished in first half of next game also and the local crowd was expecting them to seal a straight-set win but their thirst was not filled.
Philip Joper and Peter Gabriel forged a fruitful chemistry in second set and turned their rivals’ plan into dust.
This time they did not commit any mistake and manipulated every loophole. They set the foundation of victory by putting 11-8 margin before half time.
Later part of the game also saw them stepping forward at top speed. They dominated ten out of last 14 rallies and equalled match score with 21-12 total.
The Philippines campaigners continued their top form also in the decider as they briskly entered a dominating figure of 8-3 and enjoyed an upper hand until one-minute interval.
After the mid-game break, they piled up a mountainous total of 18-10 and this eight-point deficit proved final blow as Philip Joper and Peter Gabriel buried their competitors with sweeping result of 21-15.
