Philipp Kohlschreiber beats Matthias Bachinger 6-4, 6-2
World number 34, Philipp Kohlschreiber of Germany, booked his place in the round of 64, as he thrashed world number 94 Matthias Bachinger in straight sets 6-4, 6-2 in the opener at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, USA on Thursday.
Kohlschreiber and Bachinger made a steady start in the first set. Kohlschreiber needed a single break of serve to capture it 6-4.
The 28-year-old hit two aces and 64 percent of the first serves in the opener. Kohlschreiber clinched 17 of the 21 first and six of the 12 second delivery points. In comparison, Bachinger fired five aces and bagged 12 of the 15
first serve points. However, he was unable to make use of the only break chance he received in the opener.
Kohlschreiber completely dominated the second set, allowing his opponent to grab just two games and breaking him twice to seal the set 6-2.
The right-hander neither hit an ace nor any double fault. He performed very well on his opponent’s second serves, claiming five of the eight points on them in the second set.
The German took an hour and 16 minutes to undo Bachinger in a one-sided contest.
Kohlschreiber is drawn to face Kevin Anderson of South Africa in the second round.
