Philipp Kohlschreiber moves past Gilles Muller into last eight – Kremlin Cup 2011
Philipp Kohlschreiber, German world No.49, moved into the quarter-final round beating Gilles Muller, 28-year-old Luxembourger, in the 2nd round fixture of the 2011 Kremlin Cup at the Olympic Stadium in Moscow, Russia.
Ending the day, Thursday, 20th October, with the final 2nd round match, it took the German anhour and twenty one minutes to outdo Muller, 7-6(4), 6-3, and walk off into the quarter-final stage of the ATP World Tour 250 event.
Ranked world No.50, the Luxembourger gave up a tough time, however, could not end up winning any of the sets. Playing their first head on match, the two walked down the blue indoor hard court with a handful of spectators to cheer
up for the two.
Winning the toss, Muller fired up the first game of the match serving out the opener, 1-0, and rolled down the score card. Levelling up next, German world No.49 pulled away with his first win, game 2, and stood to return again.
with the two equalling up next at 2-2, 3-3, 4-4 and 5-5, the set eventually went into a tiebreaker.
Serving first, Muller pulled away the first point, however, was levelled up at every point. With points at 4-4, Kohlschreiber pulled of 3 straight points to finish off the tiebreaker winning 7-4, and the set, 7-6(4) to lead the
match, 1-0.
Moving on with the second set, German served out the first game, 1-0, and ignited. Breaking his 28-year-old rival, world No.49 lead the set start winning the first two games, 2-0. Adding another to his score section, the right
hander pulled away with a third consecutive win to lead the set, 3-0.
Winning his first game, Muller scores his first game, 3-1, and switched back the serve. Maintaining his lead, Kohlschreiber went on pocketing his fourth win of the set, 4-1, and led the set. The Luxembourger did win games, however,
was unable to cut the lead or level up next.
With scores at 4-2, world No.49 struck serving out two out of the last 3 games to win the set, 6-3, and the match in straight sets to walk off winning the match and qualifying into the quarter-final of the 2011 Kremlin Cup.
Through into the last rounds of the ATP World Tour 250 event, German 28-year-old now moves on to play Frenchman, Jeremy Chardy, to battle out the semi-final spot. Comparatively, Chardy has a better chance as he has already ousted
the third seed with much ease.
