Philipp Kohlschreiber will lead his nation at the Dusseldorf ATP event – Tennis News
German top ranked star, Philipp Kohlschreiber, will lead his fellow citizens, Benjamin Becker and Tobias Kamke, at the Power Horse World Team Cup 2013 in Dusseldorf.
Kohlschreiber, who is entering this tournament for the ninth time, enjoyed his best season this year. He climbed to his career best rank of number 16 in July and reached far in several tournaments. Spicing his season further, the German conquered the BMW
Open after upsetting Marin Cilic and secured a final berth at the Bet-at-home Cup in Kitzbuhel before losing to third seed Robin Haase.
"It offers the best possible conditions and the atmosphere is simply unbelievable. I'm really looking forward to the tournament," the German reflected.
The Serbian team is the defending champions at this event. The tournament was axed after facing commercial problems but it has now been re-structured as an ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) World Tour 250 Series event on clay. The tournament is revived
again with same sponsors and management team which is headed by Dietloff Von Arnim.
Von Arnim commented about Kohlschreiber’s commitment, "With Kohlschreiber, Becker and Kamke in the line-up, it means three German top tennis players will be competing at the Rochusclub. It's great news and we're very happy.”
Currently ranked 20th in the South African Airways ATP World Tour Rankings, Kohlschreiber made a strong start this circuit. He cruised to the semi-finals at the Heineken Open in Auckland and the Open Sud de France in Montpellier. The German also
made a fourth round showing at the Australian Open after stunning the 25th seed, Juan Monaco, in the opening round.
He captured his Munich title on the clay court and conquered two out of his three round robin matches in Dusseldorf.
In the grass court season, Kohlschreiber reached the final four at the Gerry Weber Open in Halle and cruised to the quarter-finals at Wimbledon Championships. He maintained his intensity at the US Open where he stunned the local number one John Isner to
reach the fourth round. His form declined towards the end of the season but the German achieved great success this season.
The world number nine, Janko Tipsarevic, has also committed for the 2013 World Team Cup. He has participated here three times out of which he captured two titles. The Serb lifted his first trophy here in 2009 and after displayed spectacular skills in his
2012 campaign, he grabbed his second crown.
