The Bayern Munich skipper insists that there is still the second-leg to play for and admitted that the French side are capable of staging a comeback.
Jupp Heynckes’ side secured an impressive win at the Stade Velodrome on Wednesday, March 28, in the first-leg of the UEFA Champions League quarter-final. Mario Gomez and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arjen-Robben-c6521 found the net for the visiting side as the Munich
based outfit secured a 2-0 win.
Lahm claimed that it was a brilliant victory for his team as Olympique Marseille are a very good team. He insisted that the French team had earlier knocked http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Inter-c39567 Milan out of the competition and it surely would not have been easy
to beat them in their own backyard.
The defender hailed the team’s display and admitted that the two away goals are surely a great advantage. However, he warned his side against complacency, claiming that the tie is not over yet with the second-leg still to be played
at the Allianz Arena.
“We knew Marseille are a physically robust team who'd be sure to stand up to us. But we stood up to them well in return and scored a very, very important goal just before half-time. 2–0 away from home is an outstanding result,
but it's still the quarter-finals and you always have to watch yourself. We're not through yet,” Lahm was quoted as saying in an interview.
On the other hand, Gomez, who opened the scoring, added that Bayern thoroughly deserved to win the game after the impressive football they played. He stressed that the margin of win could have been bigger if the players had taken
their chances throughout the course of 90 minutes.
“We succeeded, and at the end of the day, we thoroughly deserved to win. We could even have scored a goal or two more,” the striker added.
Bayern Munich will host the former French champions in the second-leg on Tuesday, April 3. The German giants certainly have the upper hand in the clash as they already have the advantage of two away goals. They could possibly face
Real Madrid in the semi-final of the competition.
