The Bayern Munich captain has backed Matthias Sammer’s comments and has insisted that the team can further improve on their displays
The Bavarian giants have been in sensational form this season and are leading the Bundesliga rankings rightly so. The Reds won the league fixture last week against Greuther Furth with a 2-0 margin after returning from the winter
break but were criticised by their sporting director Matthias Sammer for a below par performance.
Lahm admitted that his side did not play very well against Furth despite the win. He insisted that Sammer was right to point out the weaknesses. However, the player stated that the sporting director also should appreciate the performances
when the team is playing well.
The German international claimed that there is already plenty of criticism from the media regarding the performances and stressed that Sammer needs to motivate the team rather than criticising them.
“Matthias Sammer is right to talk about it - not only when the team loses, but also when we win. It's his http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Job-c18684 to address things like that, especially when we're doing well. The players pay more attention to it than when we lose,
because there's already plenty of external criticism then. The sporting director doesn’t need to add his two cents when we lose,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
Lahm stated that the team is working hard to improve in the remaining matches of the season and is keen to lift the league title at the end of the season. The defender warned his players against any complacency despite the nine-point
lead at the top of the table.
“We'll see whether his words have the desired effect or not over the next few weeks. However, I believe we'll improve over time,” he concluded.
Bayern Munich lead the way with 45 points from the 18 games played thus far and are nine points ahead of second-placed Bayer Leverkusen. The Reds are a staggering 12 points ahead of defending champions Borussia Dortmund and will
play their next league game against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/VfB-Stuttgart-c40879 at the Mercedes-Benz-Arena on Sunday, January 27.
