The Bayern Munich defender is all praise for the new signings in this summer’s transfer window and admits that it will increase the competition for places.
Bayern Munich have had a busy summer as they look to bolster their squad to make sure they can compete with Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga. The side has signed the likes of Mario Mandzukic, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Claudio-Pizarro-c9324, Dante, Xherdan
Shaqiri and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Tom-c35214 Starke in this summer’s transfer window to add to the already competitive Bayern squad.
Club captain, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Philipp-Lahm-c29929, stated that the likes of Pizarro and Mandzukic will provide great depth in attack, and is certain that the duo will prove their mettle when provided with the opportunities. The defender admitted that
Pizarro’s versatility and Mandzukic’s aerial ability will certainly help the team in a big way and is confident of a successful season.
“The arrival of players such as [Claudio] Pizarro and others gives us the option of using two formations. I know Pizza from the past, and I know how well he can play off a central striker. He and [Mario] Mandzukic are both great
in the air,” the German international was quoted as saying in an interview.
Lahm added that there is great depth in the squad and insisted that young players such as Shaqiri and Mitchell Weiser are brilliant talents. He praised http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Dante-c10236 for his sensational season with Borussia Monchengladbach last season
and is delighted with the competition for places at the side.
The full-back stressed that with two or three players fighting for every position next season, there will be great motivation amongst the team and every individual will be looking to give his best.
“We have lots of options now, [Xherdan] Shaqiri included. At the back, Dante means there's more competition. It all looks good on paper, but all of them have to prove themselves on the pitch – and not just the newcomers, also the
players who were regulars last season,” he concluded.
Bayern Munich will take on traditional rivals Borussia Dortmund in the DFL-Supercup on August 12 at their home ground, Allianz Arena. The Reds will take on newly promoted Greuther Furth in their opening Bundesliga fixture.
