He admitted to Spain’s inconsistent form of late, but still believes that the Red Fury have immense quality in their squad to retain their crown.
Lahm was talking to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899 Football at the award ceremony where German national team manager, Joachim Low, was honoured with the ‘Man of the Year’ award.
The German skipper believes that Spain will be a tough opponent next year, and that Germany must find a way to beat them.
However, Lahm believes that Germany are the only team in the competition who can trounce the World Champions. He has faith in the young German side and is confident of making it to the quarter-finals of next year’s competition.
While talking to France Football, the 28-year-old further added:
"Our confidence has never been so great as now. The results are excellent, our game is spectacular and effective and we have recently got the better of great teams like http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Brazil-c2858 and the Netherlands. [However] Spain are the favourites.
Then there are four or five other teams that may struggle to dethrone [them]."
The skipper also reserved praise for the entire German squad for their brilliant performances in 2011. The full-back is pleased with the way the team has adapted to the modern style of game, and has backed the manager’s attacking
approach.
"We've learned to take possession of the ball as quick as possible. All our players want the ball and always want to attack. That's where again we have progressed." Lahm concluded.
Since making his national team debut in 2004, Lahm has represented Germany on 85 occasions, and has also bagged four goals during the process.
