Philipp Petzschner crushes Peerakiat Siriluethaiwattan in the first round – Thailand Open 2012
World number 107, Philipp Petzschner of Germany, scored a one sided win over the wild card entrant from host country, Peerakiat Siriluethaiwattan, in the first round of the Thailand Open in Bangkok.
The German participant needed just 57 minutes to beat the world number 1194th in straight sets 6-1, 6-2 and got through to the last 16.
Petzschner did not waste any time to move ahead, as he broke Siriluethaiwattan in the very first game and held his following serve to grab a 2-0 lead. The German contender kept on dominating the proceedings, striking again in the
fifth and seventh to capture it 6-1.
The right-hander banged in two aces and committed a single double fault, delivering 69 percent of the first serves and converting 10 of the 11 of them into points. The 28-year-old applied pressure on his rival’s second deliveries
and won 10 of the 12 points on them. The former top-100 player put away the only break threat he came across and availed three of the four he created in the opener.
Petzschner started the second set with same high quality game, grabbing opening two and building a 2-0 lead. Siriluethaiwattan broke back in the third but he failed to come on equal terms, losing his following serve to trail 1-3.
The Thai player lost it again when he served to stay in the match at 2-5, going down 2-6.
The German contestant fired a couple of aces and 68 percent of the first deliveries, claiming nine of the 15 points on them. The 6ft 1in tall also did a good job on the second serves and returns, as he bagged five of the seven
and five of the nine on them respectively. The Pulheim, Germany resident could not save one of the two break points he faced but converted three of the six he received in the second set.
Petzschner used to be ranked as high as 35th three years back but a series of injury have made him get out of even the top 100.
The German contender will face the seventh seed, Jarkko Nieminen, or Yuichi Sugita in the second round.
