Philippe Gilbert and Greg Van Avermaet to lead Team BMC at the Fleche Barabanconne
Philippe Gilbert and Greg Van Avermaet will lead the America side, Team BMC at the Brabantse Pijl 2012, also termed as Fleche Barabanconne.
Gilbert has succeeded in the past versions of the race and the team hopes that he will find his 2011 winning momentum at the coming version of the contest.
The Belgian claimed the top position at the 2011 UCI World Tour rankings and has struggled to find form in the current season.
He has not achieved a single victory during the first segment of the year and hopes to find his winning ways for the remaining part of the season.
The cyclist’s first quarter of the season was dominated by several health issues including a tooth infection.
He crashed during the Milan-San Remo and is yet to secure his first victory of the 2012 season.
Team BMC is amongst the most expensive squads in the 2012 season but it has been unfortunate, in terms of the number of victories claimed in the season.
The only two victories secured by the team came through the strong legs of Cadel Evans.
The Australian succeeded during the second stage of the Criterium International and also grabbed the first overall spot at the race.
Team BMC is now looking ahead at the talented Gilbert to help them through the coming races of the season.
Gilbert will be accompanied by Greg Van Avermaet at the race and the team’s Sports Director John Lelangue has shown full faith in the duo.
He noted, "We have two guys who can make really good results before attacking the three big WorldTour classics in the Netherlands and Belgium".
"Philippe is also getting better after his problems the past couple of weeks".
"I am looking to just keep improving, our team is riding well, which makes it a lot easier", he concluded.
Philippe Gilbert and Greg Van Avermaet will face a stiff challenge from Peter Sagan, Andy Schleck, Oscar Freire and Lars Boom during the French event.
Team BMC has announced its final roster for the one-day race and Adam Blythe, Yannick Eijssen, Klaas Lodewyck, Amaël Moinard and Danilo Wyss will accompany Gilbert an Avermaet at the race.
