Philippe Gilbert retains Union Cycliste Internationale World Tour Ranking 2011
Belgian professional road bicyclist Philippe Gilbert has retained his top spot of the Union Cycliste Internationale World Tour tables with 356 points.
Swiss Fabian Cancellara was in second spot with 236 points.
Philippe Gilbert topped the individual rankings while his team Omega Pharma Lotto came fourth in the teams rankings while his country Belgium was in first place in the nation list.
The world time trial champion Cancellara made a strong pursuit against the Belgian but had to be content with the second spot despite his best attempts to overtake the Belgian. Meanwhile, Cadel Evans was in third spot with 232 points.
Gilbert has won nine events so far this season including Amstel Gold Race, La Fleche Wallonne and Brabantse Pijl. Winning these major tournaments have helped Gilbert to the summit of world rankings.
Matthew Goss, who finished third in previous result, has dropped down to fourth spot in the world rankings. The winner of the Vuelta ciclista al Pais Vasco, Andreas Kloden, was in fifth spot with 202 points. Michele Scarponi, who was in fifth place in the
previous rankings, has now dropped to sixth place with 202 points as well.
Tony Martin was in seventh place with 197 points and Samuel Sanchez was in eighth place with 163 points.
The teams classification underwent a major shuffling. HTC-High Road team, who were in fourth place previously, worked hard and reached the top of the world rankings with a total of 596 points.
The Leopard Trek team failed to gain points and slipped from first to second position with 503 points. Meanwhile, RadioShack team was in third position with 495 points.
In the country classification, Belgium did not score a point but gained the number one spot in the world through their 750 points. Australia has maintained its second position with 662 points and Spain worked hard in the last stage and got the third spot
with 596 points.
