Philippe Gilbert takes top place in Union Cycliste Internationale World Tour Ranking 2011

Belgian professional racer Philippe Gilbert (Omega Pharma-Lotto) has taken over the top place in the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) World Tour tables, with 698 points.
He showed a good effort in Canada’s two single day events: Grand Prix Cycliste de Quebec in Friday and Grand Prix Cycliste de Montreal on Sunday and was able to gain 130 points to grab first place in UCI.
His Omega Pharma-Lotto team secured first place in the team’s category and his home country Belgium was in second spot in the UCI country table.
The Australian professional cyclists and former leader Cadel Evans made a strong pursuit of the Belgian but was unable to hold his lead and took second place with 574 points. Alberto Contador Velasco was in third spot with 471 points.
Previously, Gilbert took the seven single events so far this season including, Liege-Bastogne-Liege, Amstel Gold Race, La Fleche Wallonne and Clasica de San Sebastian.
Previously, Joaquim Rodriguez was in fifth place but he improved his performance and took fourth place with 366 points ahead of Michele Scarponi, as Bradley Wiggins made the biggest move from 18th to 7th place with 289 points.  
Omega Pharma-Lotto team worked hard and got the first place in the UCI ranking with the total of 1079 points. Leopard Trek team failed to take points and slipped into second position with 1018 points. Sky Procycling team was in third position with 986 points.
Spain maintained their lead in the national ranking with 1357 points while Belgium worked hard in the last stage and gained second place in 1163 points. Italy was in third place with 1112 points.  
With only two events including, Tour of Beijing and Giro di Lombardia remaining in the WorldTour calendar 2011, it will be interesting to see who wins the next World ranking.
