Philippe Gilbert to catch up with Cadel Evans at the UCI World Tour standings
After his remarkable win at the Tour de France, 2011 Cadel Evans still tops the UCI World Tour standings while Philippe Gilbert is closing the gap on the Australian as he is only 6 points behind after his marvellous performance at the Eneco Tour.
Top five names in the UCI individual rankings includes the Australian Cadel Evans who is leading the points table with 574 points followed by a Belgian rider Philippe Gilbert who is missing the first position just by 6 points and third is the former Tour
de France winner Alberto Contador with 471 points. Michele Scarponi of Italy and the Spaniard Joaquim Rodriguez Oliver secures the fifth position with 328 points.
Philippe who was riding for Omega Pharma Lotto finished 29th at the final stage of the Eneco Tour as he managed to score a second position after the final general classifications as the Norwegian cyclist Edvald Boasson Hagen won the event.
Philippe finished 22 seconds behind Hagen after a tremendous performance in the seven day Eneco Tour as he managed to earn 47 points in the event with Hagen winning the event with 122 points after the final general classifications.
As a result of winning the Eneco Tour with huge points lead over other contenders, Boasson Hagen of team Sky managed to jump 37 positions on top as he moved from 54th position to the 17th position at the UCI rankings and that was the
only major change in the top 20 rankings table.
Spain leads the World Tour nation’s rankings as it dominates the first position with 1306 points followed by Italy at 1041 points at second and Australia with 1022 points at the third position. Belgium secures fourth position with 998 points while Germany
at the fifth position with 588 points.
Team Leopard Trek leads the team’s classifications with 949 points whereas BMC Racing Team is 75 points behind at second position and Omega Pharma-Lotto at third position with a total of 845 points. HTC-Highroad who has announced their demise by the end
of this year is still at fourth position with 764 points along with team Lampre-ISD at fifth slot with 644 points.
