Philippe Gilbert worried after his dipping performance in the current performance
Philippe Gilbert of Team BMC had a terrific past season with his complete dominance over all the three Ardennes Classics.
However, the 2012 season brought a lot of disappointment for him as the cyclist has struggled to open his winning account of the season.
The only commendable performances by the cyclist came during the La Fleche Wallonne.
He secured the 3rd overall spot at the race and finished 6th at the Amstel Gold Race 2012.
Last year this time Philippe had as many as seven victories in his bag but the things have quite changed in the current season.
While commenting on his current form, the Belgian noted that the only reason he is disappointed is because of the fact that he likes to win every race.
Gilbert has always set high standards for himself and he is keen to find his lost glory in the coming part of the season.
He cited, “I’m not disappointed because I did all that I could do. The only reason to be disappointed is because I always have the ambition to win. Of course it’s sad that I wasn’t able to win a big race”.
“The difference [to last year] is big. Last year I was able to make use of that form to the maximum, never letting a chance slip away. This year is quite different but that’s sport”.
“You can’t always be on the top of your form. Certainly in Liège you need to be at least 100 per cent”.
The 29-year-old secured as many as 698 UCI points and secured the top position at the UCI World Tour rankings as of October 2011 with Cadel Evans at the second position with 574 points.
The Belgian will now be seen in action at the Tour of Belgium scheduled by the end of May and is also eyeing stages at the Tour de France 2012.
Gilbert will be seen in a supporting role for his team-mate Cadel Evans during the 2012 version of the French Grand Tour.
Evans overcame Andy Schleck and Frank Schleck during the 2011 version of the Tour de France and is determined to secure his second consecutive victory at the race.
