Philippe Gilbert’s future team not decided as he plans to rest after a busy season – Cycling News
Philippe Gilbert who has 13 wins to his name in this season commented that he needs to take some rest as he had a long season and has accepted that he needs some time off racing.
Gilbert’s biggest concern at the moment is the decision about his future team as he has not made a decision yet, there are all sorts of rumours about his new team but the strongest one is that Gilbert might move to BMC in 2012.
He stated that the situation is quite complicated and at the moment he is talking to different teams and a final answer would only be given on or after August 1. He also mentioned that it is quite confusing for him as well as he is not sure about his future
team at this point and the announcement will be made as quickly as possible.
Gilbert said, “I know that the press wants to know where I’ll ride next year. Now I’m looking forward to a bit of rest, I’ve pinned a number on my back for almost thirty consecutive days and that begins to tell.”
Philippe won the San Sebastian despite the fact that his preparation was not the best as he was already tired. Gilbert commented about his busy schedule before the Sebastian and said, “The last few days have been particularly tiring, with five Criteriums
and a late plane journey to the Basque Country, However, I was still fresh enough to do something great in Clasica”
He will be looking forward to World Championships and the Italian Classic race, Tour of Lombardy as it will be his chance to make his third consecutive win in the Tour.
The Belgian is expected to race in Eneco Tour and it might be his last stage race of the season as he has refrained from the Vuelta a Espana in favour of the Vattenfall Cyclassics scheduled on August 21 followed by GP de Quebec and GP de Montreal in September.
