Philippe Mexes delighted to be back and looking for an extended run: Serie A news
A.C Milan defender, Philippe Mexes, is delighted to be back in the club colours after recovering from a long standing knee injury.
The Frenchman played full 90 minutes in his team’s 2-2 draw against Viktoria Plzen in the last group stage game of the 2011/12 UEFA Champions League at the Synot Tip Arena on Tuesday, December 6th, 2011.
Mexes joined the Italian Champions from A.S http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roma-c31603 on a free transfer in the summer transfer window but the stopper has made only three appearances thus far this season. His first two matches of the season have been as a substitute,
while he made his first start in about eight months against Plzen.
The 29-year-old admitted that he has gone through a tough time but he is happy to be fit again. The former Auxerre star thanked the medical staff for their support and admitted that they have helped him a lot in his recovery.
While talking to the reporters, Mexes said, “Training can never replace games. I’ve been waiting eight months for this moment. I was delighted to start the match. I have to thank the doctors and the medics who have helped me over
these months. It wasn’t easy, it was a long journey and I’m happy that I have finally come out of the tunnel. Let’s hope the future is kind.”
Mexes is hoping to remain injury-free for the rest of the season and wants to play a major role in the success of his club. The versatile defender admitted that he is working extremely hard to acclimatise himself to the conditions
in Milan and has demanded some time from the fans.
“I now need to familiarise myself with the team. I’m working hard to give my contribution. I just need time now to have the confidence to help this team out.”
The experienced defender will be a key component in Massimiliano Allegri’s plans for the remainder of the campaign, as he will look to rotate his squad under a tight fixture schedule. The French international had a fantastic game
against Plzen until the Czech side scored two late goals in the 89th and 90th minute respectively.
