Philippe Mexes had words of praise for group members Anderlecht and also claimed that the comeback against Napoli has done wonders for the team’s confidence
The Rossoneri are in a very tight race to the finish against their competition in Group C. They are ahead of Zenit by two points and leading Anderlecht by just one point.
“The last time I came here my team won 7-1, but tomorrow that won’t be the case,” said Milan’s defender Mexes.
“This is a very tough game and a decisive one, so we have prepared for it as best we can. It is a Champions League match and we’ll do everything to win, though it is a fixture rich with hidden dangers.”
In the previous week, Milan had thwarted Napoli’s plans to grab three points in Serie A by making an impressive comeback and equalising the final score line at 2-2 after they had conceded two goals earlier in the game.
This outcome has given new hope to the Italian giants after their dismal form in the Serie A where they sit at the 12th spot facing a string of embarrassing defeats at the hands of lesser teams.
“We showed a great reaction in Naples and that gave us a lot of confidence. We need points in Serie A, but have proved we’ve got strength and do not deserve to be in that position.” Mexes commented.
The defender also acknowledged the finely balanced position in their Champions League group and that there is no room to relax in this pool. He recommended that the team should limit the number of individual mistakes that are being
made.
The full-back emphasized on the fact that the team should be united and play as they played against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Napoli-c40003 and forget their past misfortune.
The Italians and the Belgians have met earlier in the tournament as well at San Siro where the match ended with a goal-less draw. This fixture was part of the chain of bad performances that the Rossoneri have churned out. This
particular one was bad enough that manager Massimiliano Allegri declared it to be the “worst of the season.”
