Philippe Mexes hopes that Roma are out of difficulty
Roma’s Philippe Mexes believes that Roma will need to be cautious after the clubs 2-1 win against CFR Cluj-Napoca in the Champions League.
Roma have had a difficult period, but this victory comes after the Italian side beat Inter Milan in the league. Roma have appeared to have gotten over their poor start, but Mexes still believes his side can and must get better.
"The important thing was to win tonight, but it was a pity we didn't run better. We tried not to take risks, but we have to improve," Mexes told
Sky Italia after the game.
The player added, "[The lapses in concentration] are a problem we have because we did not manage the strikers well. It is a delicate moment when every shot leaves us worrying. But it is a psychological problem.”
Mexes has stated that the club have a lot more work to do if they are to compete with the top sides of Europe and challenge for domestic titles. Roma currently lie in 18th place in the league and have had a disappointing campaign so far this season.
Roma will hope to improve on their league form and that the win in the Champions League will give them more confidence.
Roma find themselves in second place in the group after beating Cluj in the Champions League. Mexes scored an important goal, but the Roma player knows that there is a long way to go in the competition. Roma have already lost to Bayern Munich in the group.
Mexes said, "It is still difficult from the beginning of the season though. We are more at peace with ourselves now. But we know that the Champions League is difficult."
The Italian club will face Basle in the next round and will hope that they can improve their standing in the league before the next match.
