Philippe Mexes joins AC Milan from AS Roma – Serie A news
Philippe Mexes has completed his highly anticipated move to the newly crowned Serie A champions, AC Milan, after spending seven years with AS Roma. The player had run out of contract at the capital club and had refused to ink down a new
deal.
Mexes had reportedly asked the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roma-c31603 management to offload him in the January transfer market as he wanted the club to earn some profit from his departure. The club decided against cashing in on the player and Mexes has now joined AC Milan
on a Bosman move.
“I suggested to Roma last year to sell me to Milan,” the player told the media. “But they didn’t do anything.”
The player believes he will miss the glorious time he spent in Rome.
“I spent some stupendous years in the capital. Rome, for me, is my second home. But I am now arriving at one of the greatest and most successful clubs in the world.” He said.
The player was being followed by AC Milan for some time now but Mexes had stayed put, showing loyalty to the Giallorossi colours. However, he changed his mind last year and had declared that he will join the Milan giants before the start
of the upcoming season.
Now that the transfer has been completed, Mexes is eyeing next year’s UEFA Champions League. “I’m here to win, the Rossoneri are an elite club in the world game and my objective is the Champions League.”
The player had been a part of one of the most successful illustrious teams in Europe, but his latest transfer has seen him move to one of Europe’s best. Mexes is already very excited about the endeavour. “I’m joining Milan and I’m happy
that I am going to be a part of this team for the next four years. I’m proud, especially when I look at the new jersey with the Scudetto shield on it.”
Mexes is undergoing treatment on a knee ligament injury and is set to spend some time on the sidelines. However, he will be available for selection once the latest Serie A season starts.
