AC Milan were odds on favourites to qualify for the quarter-finals of the European competition after their 4-0 drubbing of the Arsenal side in the first-leg of the last 16 tie.
Many were considering the second-leg tie at the Emirates Stadium a mere formality, but the match went down to the wire, as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 were at their supreme best. The Gunners were a bit unlucky not to score the
fourth to force the extra-time.
There would have been lessons learnt by Massimiliano Allegri’s men from the tie and would have taught the team to stay vigilant and not give into complacency at any time in the match. The North London outfit
trounced the Rossoneri 3-0, but the Italians went away with a 4-3 aggregate victory.
Mexes was reflecting on the prospects of next round draws, and was of the opinion that he would prefer it if they faced a relative minnow then the big European clubs at this stage.
He mentioned that it would be preferred by his teammates if they managed to escape having ties against the German and the Spanish giants. He further commented:
"We have some preferences for the draw. If it is possible to avoid http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, that would be nice.”
He was forthright in his preference of playing the French outfit, and mentioned that it did not mean that they were undermining the opposition.
"I wont lie to you: Marseille would be a good draw. I'm not saying it would be easy, but to go further on the competition, well, it would be the best. However, Marseille is a good team, which has defeated
many fierce adversaries."
Didier Deschamps’s side overcame http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Inter-c39567 Milan in the last 16 of the Champions League, with a closely fought aggregate 2-2. Marseille advanced through to the last eight courtesy the away goal.
