Phillies at losing end as Braves’ Prado homers to secure win (Part 2)
In the second match of the three game series the Atlanta Braves, put themselves in a position to win the series by winning the match. Now the Braves and the Philadelphia Phillies both have equal chances to win the series finale.
The Phil’s had previously won the first game 5-4 in dramatic fashion, and the Braves balanced it out by winning this one 5-3.
In this particular match, Joe Blanton from the Phillies went up against Jair Jurrjens of the Braves.
Visibly pleased with his team’s victory, Jurrjens commented, "Every game we get from the Phillies is a big game, everybody knows they're the team to beat in the National League, the team to beat in our division".
The Braves wasted no time cashing in one Joe Blanton as they belted out one leadoff home run after another. One was by Martin Prado and the other by Nate McLouth, which managed to give Atlanta a good 2-0 lead, as soon as the game started.
Prado’s home run to the left side of the field covered a distance of four hundred and nine feet and McClouth’s homer flew for four hundred and sixteen feet. Apparently suffering two homers early on in the game was what pushed Blanton to silence the Braves
by departing after five innings, in which he only let five hits pass him by, and the two initial runs.
Offense wise, the Phil’s weren’t able to get the same kick start like the Braves. They couldn’t get a single base runner until Michael Martinez managed to get a pinch hit that successfully broke up Jurrjens perfect game.
After a few batters in the sixth inning, it was Jimmy Rollins, who doubled to the deep right of the field and Martinez scored to put up the first run from the Phillies side on the scoreboard.
The Braves responded promptly, as they scored twice in the sixth inning. The first run came about when Dan Uggla scored and the second one came courtesy of Prado, who singled to the centre of the field as Freddie Freeman.
The Phillies replied twice in the eighth inning, but still fell two runs short of even balancing out the game. Raul Ibanez scored as Wilson Valdez doubled to the left. Later Valdez scored as John Mayberry Jr. grounded.
The day wasn’t one of the best for the Phillies and it didn’t escape anyone’s notice that the Phillies hardly win without Roy Halladay, Cliff Lee, Cole Hamels, or, Roy Oswalt on the mound. Their bullpen was below average, proof is in the fact that they allowed
three runs in the duration of three innings, which is hard to make up for.
The last match would be played tomorrow, with Halladay taking on Tim Hudson.
