  1. Uh-oh!  I'm not a Phillies fan and I answered!  I must be in a lot of trouble now...

To answer your question, I'm PISSED that the Phillies couldn't just hold the d**n lead.  They better improve next game.

  2. It was one game and the Phillies are not that great. But the Mets will probably choke in September. I think Phillies fans overrate their team. Pitching has always been a weakness the past two seasons for the Phils.

  3. Charlie Manuel screwed it up...Our bullpen is outta gas i mean they pitched ALOT in those 2 games against the mets and he decides to pull a pitcher thats pitching a gem and give it to a bullpen thats outta gas i know Cole pitch count was getting up there, but he was very capable of going the 8th inning and than hand it over to Lidge.

  4. no surprise. the cubbies are red hot and ramirez is incredible!

  5. Can't do much about it, that happens to bullpens sometimes.  As a Mets fan, I know this very well.  Your bullpen isn't bad; can't expect them to be perfect, that's all.

Two big meltdowns in two nights will certainly get fans frustrated, though!  But still...look at what they've done over the course of the year, right down to Brad Lidge, who has just been...the man.

Still, I'm not 100% sure of the logic with Cole Hamels.  Seven really good innings, and he wasn't laboring either.  Gave up a hit in the 8th, but kept getting those ground-ball outs.  I guess Charlie Manuel figured that 108 pitches was plenty (can go either way on that), but his bullpen had been good, and it would have been nice to pad a three-run lead if possible, so try a pinch hitter (but Hamels can hit!!).  In most cases, a three-run eighth-inning lead is fine, so why not give Hamels the rest, especially with 108 pitches on that arm?

It was a tough call, and there's no telling what Hamels would have done in the 8th anyway.  The Cubs just might have exploded on him, too.

Admittedly, I'm amazed at the lack of topic-spam by Mets "fans" gloating over the Phillies' bullpen woes over the last two days.  That's some show of restraint!

Here comes September...game on, enjoy it, folks!

  6. the bullpen collapsed, but the cubs are known bullpen killers

  7. It's not the Phills, It's the Cubs they're smokin hot and have been coming from behind al year.

25 times they have scored 5 or more in one inning.

    50 home wins

It's not the Phills it's just the Cubs year.

They have murdered bull pins all year

See you in October Cubs in 6

  8. i was hoping the phillies would win

even tho they swept my dodgers i still respect those phillies

  9. Earlier I completely blamed Charlie for decided to take out Hamels but I do understand why after thinking about it, Cole's our ace, if he was to get hurt we would be in some serious trouble. He was over 100 pitches and now that we are at the end of August and time is winding down the last thing we need is Hamels out of action. But, our bullpen has been overworked the last few games and needed this night of rest. It was a huge gamble on Charlie's part that didn't work out like he had hoped it would, Madson and Durbin both struggle at times but they are also phenominal at times and tonight, they struggled. This loss is one of the harder ones to get over because our bullpen who has been strong all year blew it and we haven't seen many games this season where that has happened.

  10. I'm a Cubs fan, but I still wanna put my two cents in since I saw the game.

Hamels was outstanding, he was clearly shutting down the Cubs. But the Phillies' bullpen has been really good lately, so although I think Hamels could have went a little longer, I don't blame Manuel for putting some trust in his bullpen. I know the feeling though, the bullpen implosion losses are much harder to swallow than games where you were losing the whole time.

  11. As a Cubs fan I would like to see Philly win the East.  Don't worry about today's loss.  The Cubs will sweep the mets in late September to make up for every time they beat the Phillies.  Remember though, the Phillies did beat the Cubs 2 of 3 back in April.  But I think the Cubs are an even stronger team right now.  We'll see.  Good luck to you and yours.

  12. I thought I was watching a mets game!

  13. hahahah now you know how Mets fans feel with our bullpen

  14. Phillies aren't so bad.  It's just that my Chicago Cubs are incredible!!  Good luck with the Mets though.  I'll be watching the race from high atop the NL Central at beautiful Wrigley Field.
