Phillip Chew, Jamie Subandhi prove their worth in 2012 Pan Am Badminton Championships
Mixed Doubles partners Phillip Chew and Jamie Subandhi played with great precision and overwhelmed Javier Nelson-Beronica Vibieca in XVII Pan Am Badminton Championships Team Event on October 8, 2012.
This 25-minute tussle was part of a group B match between USA and Dominican Republic and it concluded in just two games.
Both teams kept the local badminton lovers of Lima, Peru intact while piling up final figures of 21-18 and 21-16.
However, the victorious duo Phillip and Jamie showed superior finishing skills and sealed a splendid straight-set victory.
On the other hand, the opposing team put great fight but luck was not on their side and they had to surrender after receiving a severe blow of 2-0.
In the opening game, both contenders put all in their possession and made this segment of the showdown a memorable contest.
They made every effort to gain an early advantage but neither of them could hit the mark until half time.
Phillip and Jamie played cautiously in the beginning which helped their rivals to place a decent total of five on the points table.
The twosome of Javier and Beronica kept on moving forward at steady pace but few unforced errors brought them down just before the interval.
They lost four consecutive points and allowed their challengers to bounce back with a respectable score position of 11.
The US shuttlers did not squander this opportunity and strengthened their grip by prevailing in three uninterrupted rallies. They carried this flow in the final moments and pocketed first match point with 21-18 margin.
Next game was also played in similar manner as both teams snapped at each other’s heels in the beginning and remained close on points table but then Phillip-Jamie showed elevated craft and locked the honour.
In first half of the set, Javier and Beronica enjoyed the upper hand initially but they could not maintain same momentum in next couple of rallies.
Meanwhile, the US campaigners reinstated their dominance with a flurry of well placed strokes and raised hands as victors after putting 21-16 score on the board. Phillip and Jamie sealed their country’s 5-0 victory by claiming this valuable match point.
