The 41-year-old admitted that his side deserved to claim a 3-2 win over http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/AZ-c38571 Alkmaar on Eredivisie match-day 30 and heaped praise on his side’s passion to bag maximum points.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/PSV-c40281 Eindhoven head coach, Phillip Cocu, was extremely delighted with his side’s hard fought 3-2 win over AZ Alkmaar at Philips Stadion on Saturday, April 14.
The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604 player was all praise for his team’s performance and admitted that they deserved to emerge victorious for not giving up until the final whistle.
PSV asserted their authority right from the first whistle and took the lead in the 17th minute through http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jeremain-Lens-c18323. The 41-year-old tactician has admitted that his side performed brilliantly in the opening 20 minutes and deserved to take the
lead.
“We had most of the ball, piled on the pressure, dominated and deservedly took the lead”, Cocu was quoted as saying to the club’s official website.
AZ, however, restored parity in the 24th minute when http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roy-Beerens-c31808 coolly netted
after receiving a pass from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Maarten-Martens-c22997.
“We controlled the game until AZ did the unexpected and scored an equaliser. They got themselves back in the game and were leading 1-2 at half-time”, Cocu added.
While praising his side’s efforts, the Dutch trainer went on to reveal that he urged his side in the half-time break not to give up until the final whistle, and they did exactly that.
Lens scored the equaliser in the 77th minute while Tim Matavz sealed the win seconds before the full time whistle.
“I told the lads not to give up but keep on fighting and that’s what they did. Showing passion and willpower, we enforced our luck. All credit to my team: they fought until the final whistle”, Cocu concluded.
The win boosted PSV’s hopes of finishing at the second spot, as they are now just a single point behind the second placed AZ.
However, dropped points severely dented the Alkmaar outfit’s chances of becoming Dutch champions, as they now trail the table-toppers, Ajax Amsterdam, by six points with only 12 points left to play for before the ongoing 2011/12 season comes to an end.
