The 41-year-old tactician was pleased with the 2-1 win over http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alex-c4752 Pastoor’s side on Eredivisie match-day 31 but admitted that his side had a tough evening after conceding an early goal.
PSV Eindhoven head coach, Phillip Cocu, was extremely delighted with his side’s 2-1 win over http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/NEC-c40018 Nijmegen at Philips Stadion on Sunday, April 22.
The Eindhoven giants were stunned by the Nijmegen outfit, as they shockingly took the lead in the seventh minute through Navarone Foor. Lasse Schone’s free-kick was poorly cleared by PSV goalkeeper, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Przemyslaw-Tyton-c30175, and Foor was quick to head home the rebound.
Cocu admitted that his side encountered difficulties after conceding an early goal.
“I think that we played a relatively difficult game. I believe that we could have prevented that goal. We didn’t clear the ball properly and were not alert on the rebound. N.E.C. then dropped deep inside their own-half and kept space very limited, which
made things tough for us”, the Dutch trainer was quoted as saying to the club’s official website.
PSV mounted immense pressure but failed to restore parity until the 68th minute, when Dries Mertens’ pass inside the box was controlled impressively by Jetro Willems before hitting the bottom left corner of the net.
Two minutes before the full time whistle, Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink’s strike sealed the 2-1 win in favour of the Eindhoven giants.
The PSV manager was all praise for his side’s efforts and revealed that their patience rewarded his side with all three points.
“We attempted to increase the pace of the game and played a bit more opportunistic every now and then. Things opened up a bit after Willems’ equaliser. The team remained patient in the end and was rewarded for that. I can only give the team a compliment,
just like last week against AZ”, Cocu concluded.
The Eindhoven giants remain unmoved at the fifth spot on the Eredivisie table, seven points behind the league leaders, Ajax Amsterdam, and a single point behind the second placed http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/AZ-c38571 Alkmaar.
