Phillip Hughes, the Australia left-handed batsman, has admitted that not having a settled position in the batting order can be quite a demanding task but made it clear that he is ready to bat at any number in the interest of the team.
The Baggy Greens are presently facing immense difficulties in settling their batting woes, with their batsman miserably failing to deliver the goods in the opening two Tests of the on-going Ashes series at Trent Bridge and the Lord’s respectively.
Hughes batted at number six in the first Test and scored a valiant half-century in the first innings. However, the left-hander was asked to bat at number four at the Lord’s, where he could not make a strong impression.
The left-hander believes that a batsman needs a permanent slot in the batting order to be able to perform consistently well at the highest stage of the sport. Despite the fact that he is ready to bat any number, Hughes made it clear that he is a specialist
opening batsman and would love to bat against the new ball.
"I don't mind where I bat but when you do move from one to six, mentally it can be frustrating," Hughes said. "At times it can be tough to get your head around the different positions but you've just got to get on with it. It was different going out opening.
It's something that I'm very comfortable with, opening the batting. I've done it for a number of years."
Hughes has scored a brilliant 84 in the on-going first-class match against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sussex-c852, showing signs of improvement.
There has been immense criticism on the Australian team after their losses in the first two Tests and Hughes understands that there are going to be few changes in the playing-11 for the third Test. However, he is confident about retaining his place in the
team.
"When you lose Test matches there are obviously changes. Overall I feel confident and hopefully I'll be in that third Test side when it's selected," he added.
The third Test starts on August 1, 2013, at the Old Trafford, Manchester.
