Phillip Hughes’ technique will be examined in Test cricket, says Sangakkara – Cricket News Update
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/KC-Sangakkara-c1779, the former Sri Lanka captain, is impressed by Phillip Hughes’ performances in the current domestic season but feels that international cricket is a different ball-game, which is going to test the true ability of the left-handed batsman.
The 24-year-old cricketer, having done well at the national level as well as in junior cricket, made his way to the Australian Test team in 2009, scoring an impressive 75 on debut against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 at Johannesburg. The left-handed opener did score three
Test centuries but failed to deliver the goods consistently, eventually losing his place in the national team.
Hughes however, has performed out of his skin in the on-going first-class season, scoring 518 runs in just five matches with an average of more than 50 runs per innings, including a century and three fifties.
The left-hander’s performances have earned him a recall to the Test team for the series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RT-Ponting-c2377, the former Aussie skipper. The first Test between the two teams begins on December, 14, at Hobart.
Sangakkara, who is considered to be one of the best batsmen in Test cricket these days, admits that Hughes has done well in Sheffield Shield cricket recently and expressed that batsmen do learn and mature from experience.
“Well, I think batsmen evolve and performance necessitates that they do evolve or change or do some tweaking to their technique if it's causing them a problem,” Sangakkara said. “Phil has scored a lot of runs this season. He's averaging in the fifties for
the season so it shows he is in good form.”
However, Sangakkara has warned the young batsman to be on his toes in the three-match series and said that the Lankan bowlers will test the left-hander’s technique.
“But a good ball is a good ball to anyone. Again, when we bowl at batsmen, it's all about trying to build up pressure consistently by bowling in good areas. So it will be an interesting battle,” he added.
With http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SR-Watson-c2558 likely to slip down the batting order, Hughes will probably bat at number three against the Islanders.
