Phillip Hughes wants to become a consistent player for Australia – Cricket News Update
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Phillip-Hughes-c2185, who has been recalled into the Australian squad for Sri Lanka’s tour, encompassing a three-match Test series, wants to become the most consistent cricketer, saying that he has the ability and will to cement his place in the top order.
"I feel like I'm probably batting the best I've ever batted, especially the way I finished the NSW season last year in the final and then I felt really good in the middle against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zimbabwe-c3045 playing for Australia A, so hopefully I can take that form forward,"
said Hughes.
Hughes was called into the Australian squad in place of opener, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SM-Katich-c2543, who was dropped recently. The left-handed batsman said that he was excited to play in the upcoming tour and was grateful for the opportunity, which is a huge challenge for him.
The three-match Test series between Australia and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 starts from August 31, 2011.
The 22-year-old made his Test debut against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 in February 2009, where he failed to prove his batting and went back for a duck; while in the second innings he gave an impressive performance and amassed 75 runs off 121 balls.
He continued with his brilliant form and hit two centuries in next two innings against Proteas at Durban. However, after four months, Hughes was dropped ahead of the third Ashes Test.
"I've had a taste of international cricket before and I remember the time when I did get dropped and that was a very disappointing moment, but I'm just happy to be back in the squad,” asserted Hughes.
The New South Welshman then played five more Test matches as a replacement for injured players, including the final three Tests of 2010/2011 Ashes series. However, he failed to impress the selectors for a permanent place in the squad.
On the whole, Hughes has played 10 Test matches, scoring 712 runs at an average of 39.55, including two centuries and two fifties. He has not made his One-Day International debut yet.
The upcoming Test series will be the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750.
