Phillipa Anderson and Tanika Hoffman impress at ASP 6-Star Estoril Surf & Music Billabong Girls Pro
Day one of the 2011 ASP 6-Star Estoril Surf & Music Billabong Girls Pro started in stunning fashion with the convincing performance of Australian surfer, Phillipa Anderson in heat 1 of Round 1 at Praia do Guincho in Portugal, on June 10, 2011.
Anderson clinched the highest heat score of 15.00 out of a 20 possible points against Meah Collins of USA and Web Noble of Great Britain in very suitable and trouble free weather conditions at the Praia do Guincho’s beach. The current was not suitable for
both the American and British surfers when compared to the Australian surfer in heat 1 of Round 1.
Collins ended second with a total score of 6.25 points, whereas, Noble captured only 4.05 points (out of 20) in the corresponding heat.
Meanwhile, the Aussie surfer claimed that she really enjoyed the current at Praia do Guincho. She was very vibrant and determined before the start of heat 1 in Round one and she indeed capitalised on the opportunity. She is thrilled with her individual performance
in heat 1.
On the other hand, the losers of the match were not looking satisfied with their overall performance in the respective heat. Luckily, Collins qualified for Round 2, while Nobile could not make her way to the next round of the championship.
Phillipa Anderson will compete with three surfers including Lakey Peterson of USA, Rebecca Woods of Australia and Bethany Hamilton of Hawaii in Round 2 of the competition. With the run of rich form Peterson is in, the surfer seems to be the favourite to
win heat 1 of Round 2.
Meanwhile, Tanika Hoffman (ZAF) won heat 2 with a sterling score of 10.40 points. Brittani Nicholl of Australia was placed second with a total score of 9.65 points, while Faye Zoetmulder (ZAF) finished third with a total mark of 7.85 points.
Estitxu Estremo of Spain settled fourth with a score 7.70 points. The scorecard depicts that the current was not good and suitable for surfers in heat 2 of Round 1.
