Phillippe Aumont: A promising prospect for Philadelphia Phillies - MLB News
After going through a forgettable last two years ending up only in putting out an unimpressive show despite the excruciating attempt to make an impact, Phillippe Aumont stands tall and all set to earn a job in the bullpen for Philadelphia Phillies this season.
Content and relaxed he left the mound with pride on his face after recording a 6-1 exhibition win against Florida State.
The idea of first impression matters holds least significance to Aumont as it took almost two years for him to justify his trade which was in exchange of left handed Cliff Lee. This event put extra pressure on Amount to prove his mettle.
Leaving aside the negatives and just neutralising feelings during the off-season are the deliberate exercises he resorted to and interestingly results are quite palpable. He finished this year boasting a 5.68 ERA and a 3-11 record.
After the performance his attitude toward his place in the team has changed and it seems only a matter of time when he transpires on the Big League. As pitching coach Rich Dubee said, “I think he’s familiar with his surroundings. When you’re a traded player
there’s an added pressure on you. I think he’s come over here and gotten comfortable with our people and he’s relaxed more.”
As the time has passed, Aumont has added variety to his artillery. His arm is more powerful now, throwing 11 fastball pitches out of 13 on Wednesday and secondary pitches, curve and one-split-fingered fastball he used in the game against Seminoles are reflective
of the potential mastery he can achieve.
It is interesting to note Aumont admitting how he tried to overdo things at the start to impress upon the team-mates however in vein. “You want to please everybody and show what you’ve got,” He said. “You want to impress your teammates. You try to put a
good word out there. … But it was just trying too much.”
The fact Aumont had the talent but could not adjust to his role and now that he feels quite at home, one can believe the potential strength he can add to the Phillies’ dug-outs.
