  1. Err...

I stopped buying Philips electrical after realizing they are rebadged China-made brands.

All I know good about Philips is their sound system. Their speakers are always so good; be it computer speakers, portable speaker, TV speakers, home theatre speakers.

Tell you one thing. I know a lot of people who uses Philips theatre systems complaining the unit failed after 3 years of continuous use. The reason? Overheating! Just like Sony, they 'purposely' make a component inside the unit to be heat sensitive thus after prolonged exposure will generally give way.

Panasonic is actually OK. Had one theatre set, read online so far no one complaint about the model. Even I have had no complains. Got a Panasonic hifi, generally 5 years old before my younger siblings excitedly inserted a paper into the disc drive and everything screwed up!

So, if can, avoid Philips and Sony unless you planned to make use of its amplifier-like sound system.

  2. Phillips AND Pansasonic are not very good for a Home theater system. I would recommend at LEAST a sony because that is probably the cheapest but decent brand you can go with. Yes there is cheaper but many things cheaper then sony is goin to be junk. Now the good brands are like Harman/Kardon, Marantz, Older Technics, and things like that. But for your budget sony should work good.

  3. Just make sure U listen at the store and determine 4Urself whether or not it fits Ur ears.

  4. How much are you looking to spend. Then its much easier to make a statement. Paradigm makes a wonderful HTIB. But cost quite a bit. Depends also on how much you care about sound.

  5. Phillips has a fairly good reputation, probably better than JVC. But kit varies, so the best bet is to shop around and then search the net for reviews to make sure you aren't buying a lemon.
