I'm quite new to philosophy and I'm enjoying it. Was just wondering what career opportunities philosophy provides?

  1. I have not one but two philosophy people in my family. Pretty much the only two career options are teaching (95% or more) and serving on a board making ethics decisions, which is usually temporary. (Philosophers who specialize in medical ethics, for example, crafted the policies regarding transplant priority lists.)

So essentially, unless you want to teach at the college level, philosophy doesn't have many job possibilities.

  2. its a great subject but you can't do much with it, unless sitting in a cave by yourself and ruminating on the deeper meanings of life and the human condition count as a career

  3. It's pretty difficult at first for the employer to understand what of uses you will be. But, later on once you got a job, they would understand that a philosophy students can practiclly do everything, when of course, you have a chance to learn things on the job. I interviewed as many as thousand people before and had hire more than a hundred. I rather like Philosophy students for job that does not require specific technical knowledge; you know like medicine, engineer, architecture and so on. You can do banking jobs, social science field of work, become politician or associate, etc..

    Good luck.
