If you took it in college did it really change your perspective? I ask because I have very strong opinions and I am wondering if buying into all of it is worth it? What was your experience? Did you like it?

  1. I don't know what philosophy you're buying into.  Not every pearl of wisdom is the idea to live by.

That said, college freshman usually take philosophy 101 which is "Intro. to critical thinking".  This class teaches you the rudiments of rhetoric, argumentation and debate; describes the common argument types, including popular fallacies.  You cannot claim to be truly rational without mastering basic critical thinking.

  2. I took philosophy classes when I was in college, and they have profoundly changed my perspective.  Ever since, I've alway believed that I'd excel at making philosophical arguments, such as this one.

  3. If you want to get a crash course in critical thinking/logic/debate, academic philosophy has much too offer.  But there is really only one way to get to the truth:  study philosophy independently.  There is a dull army of philosophers out there that are blowing only hot air.  Watch out.
