i just started my intro to philosophy this week and we have been learning about materialism. we learned that buddhist meditate and when they see visions, the visions are classified as material, as opposed to inmaterial. and when christians see signs after prayer it is also classified as material. my question is: Is there a material aspect to induced visions via acid (LSD) or psychotropic mushrooms. ive done my fair share and have seen things that make sense while hallucinating. can these visions be counted as material visions?

  1. good morning brother

    great question

materislism is an metaphysical doctrine which considered mattar as the only reality which we can percieve

in indian philosophy carvaka school of indian philosophy is only materlistic, did you had ever studied carvaka school of indian philosophy

buddhist are not materlistic because they belive in life after death in recarnation,in heaven and h**l and many religious rituals

now i am giving you main points of materlism in carvaka school of indian philosophy

1 carvaka are atheist, they never belive in soul, god or rebirth, heaven or h**l they considered mattar as only reality which we can percieve,as we cannot percieve soul, god they never exist.

2 they consider that human body is made of 4 elements fire, water, earth and air,we can percieve them, they not considered the fifth one sky as we cannot percieve it

    3 carvaka ethics and materlisam

they think that the main purpose of human life is enjoyment of pleasure

till the end of life, they think we had come once and will never come back again so we should enjoy life to the maximum extent

they had two aims of life

    1 enjoyment of plesure

2 to earn wealth, wealth is just a mean to pleasure

they considered guys like buddha an idiot, they think that till there is human life there will be pain as well as pleasure,we had to maximize pleasure and minimize pain, there are some humans who acts like

morons and go to forest and leave all the pleasure because pain will follow them, which idiot will not grow the crop becuase animals can eat them.so carvaka had only 2 ends of life

    1 artha and 2 kama

1 sexual enjoyment and 2 wealth only

there are also some cultured materlistic like vatsanayan, you know

kamsutra it talk about sexual positions and end of human life for them

dharma(moral duties ) is also necessary and one should enjoy wealth and pleasure by fullfiling his moral duties also, they are cultured materlistic

so brother these are not my views,i respect lord buddha very much, these are the views of materlistic school of indian philosophy

buddhist school of indian philosophy is not materlistic at all, they are religious, belive in morality, rebirth, celabacy etc.

so brother if you want to read about materlism you should read about carvaka school of indian philosophy,i will advice you,it is an great work on materlism, which is against god, soul, morality etc and considered earning of money adn sexual enjoyment as the true aim of life.

the great german philosopher kant, give great compilent to carvaka school of indian philosophy because it made indian philosophy critical and save it from dogmatic slumber,as hume save western philosophy from dogmatic slumber.

carvaka means those who chew(carva) eat and marry,it is single complete materlistic school in indian philosophy,it had beem most hated one and all books of this school had been burned.

    hope i answer the question

god bless you and will give you power, beauty and long life

all the best for the future

if you need any help in future realted to indian philosophy i will always

be there,we are curruntly studying schools of indian philosophy in our college, chinese philosphy and formal logic.

  3. The point is to perceive something as material after you meditate, not after you're high.
