Phinney considering options for 2011
Taylor Phinney, the greatest prospect of American cycling, has said that he is considering offers to join Swiss team BMC and a new Luxembourgian outfit for next season.
Phinney currently races for Lance Armstrong's U23-team Trek-Livestrong. He also rode alongside Armstrong in this year's Tour of Denmark as an apprentice to Team RadioShack.
His association with the seven-time Tour de France winner has led many to believe that Phinney would join RadioShack for next season. But as RadioShack are unlikely to continue as sponsors in 2011, Phinney has found himself subject to several other offers.
"There are a lot of rumours going around at the moment but all I can say is that no decision about who I'll ride for next season has been made yet," Phinney told Cyclingnews on Wednesday.
Swiss and Luxembourgians interested
Phinney said that BMC, who announced no less than six other signings on Wednesday, and the Schleck brothers' unnamed Luxembourgian team are interested in his services.
"BMC is interested, which is nice, but there has been a lot of interest from other teams too, including the new Luxembourg team the Schlecks will ride for and who will use Trek bikes. To be honest, it has been very flattering to get so much interest. Things are still evolving and there is new information emerging all the time. I wish I knew who I'll be riding for next year too but it's a slow, ongoing process."
Phinney, who won this year's U23 Paris-Roubaix race, is set to race in this year's Tour de l'Avenir, which begins on Sunday.
He will then travel from his current base in Lucca, Italy, to the United States for the road and time trial national championships.
