Question:

Phobia of sick and university?

I have a phobia of other people being sick, and I always have since I can remember.

It's not as bad as other people with this phobia, and it's slightly better than it was before, but it still makes going out in some circumstances hard.

Anyway my worry is that I'm going into my last year of school. So in 1 years time I'll be off to university and moving out of my family home.

I'm really concerned about this.

Even last night for example, at a party, I narrowly avoided a nasty sick incident, and not just that- but it makes it hard worrying all night when a potential situation arises in the sick department!

Does anyone with a fear of sick have any advice on university?

I know it's out every night drinking. Which often equals sick.

Does the area make a big difference?

I'm applying to a few smaller uni's in smaller towns hoping less people= less sick but yeah any advice at all would be great!

(I know it's early to be worrying but this is a big concern of mine!)

  1. Hmm, that is quite a predicament. You shouldn't have to apply to a smaller uni. because of this phobia, though, education is very important so you should go into the best school for you.

I'd suggest trying a psychiatrist to sort this phobia out. Why are you afraid of sick people? Are you afraid of being sick yourself or just seeing them? Maybe if you can diagnose the origin of the fear, you can face it head on and free yourself from it.

If not, that's okay too. You could always bring a hand-sanitizer everywhere you go and wash your hands frequently to avoid becoming sick.
