Question:

Phoenix's Grand Canal?

I currently live in Peoria at 75th Ave and Bell. I love riding my bike and running on the canal there (the Arizona Canal). I am considering moving down to Glendale and 75th Ave. I know there is a canal in that area, but am wondering if and how much of it has been paved. I see it goes all the way to Papago Park, but I have a road bike and would need a paved path. Anyone live in the area or know more info on this canal?

  1. Get on the bike and check it out.  There are paved areas right next to the canal in most places.  But some areas are just hard-packed dirt. /

  2. Most of the Grand Canal is paved, but with a hard dirt path.  A road bike could probably manage it without too much problem, but a hybrid bike would be better.  With a road bike, you might consider the path near Hayden Road in Scottsdale that goes down the Indian Bend Wash instead - that's all paved, and nearly 20 miles long, although much further from you.
