Phoenix Coyotes' Brett MacLean suffers 'Cardiac Emergency' -NHL Update
Phoenix Coyotes’ young forward, Brett MacLean suffered a scary incident on Monday, July 2, 2012, as it was termed to be a ‘cardiac emergency’ which hospitalised him while he was playing hockey in Canada.
MacLean was playing hockey at a local rink in Owen Sound, Ontario, when he fell to the ice and was administered CPR. The 23-year-old was then taken to a hospital in London, Ontario and is currently under intensive care in the cardiac ICU.
General Manager of Phoenix Coyotes, Don Maloney, was the one to inform the media about the incident and also added that the medical staff available at the hospital have termed him to be in ‘stable’ condition.
"Brett was playing hockey last night in Owen Sound, Ontario when he suffered a medical emergency," GM Don Maloney said. "Brett received CPR on site and was taken to a local hospital by ambulance, where he was treated. He was then transported via an air ambulance
to Knight University Hospital in London, Ont., where he was admitted to the cardiac ICU.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with Brett and his family," Maloney said in a statement. "We request that everyone please respect their privacy at this time. We will provide an update on Brett's status when information is available."
MacLean is a 32nd overall draft pick back in round-two of the 2007 National Hockey League (NHL) Entry Draft by Phoenix Coyotes. The native of London, Ontario, Canada, has played a total of 18 games during his career which spans over two seasons
with a total of five points (2 goals, 3 assists).
The 23-year-old played with various minor league teams like the Oshawa Generals in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) and San Antonio Rampage of the American Hockey League (AHL) before making his first NHL appearance in 2010-2011 with Phoenix. He had 13 games
and three points (2 goals, 1 assist) in that timeframe.
MacLean was shipped off to the Winnipeg Jets for the 2011-2012 regular season and participated in five games for a total of two assists before being reclaimed by Phoenix Coyotes off of waivers by the Jets club in early October of 2011.
He has currently been assigned to Portland’s AHL team.
