Phoenix Coyotes' Shane Doan heartbroken, looking at options -NHL Free Agency Update
Looking at the possibility of leaving the team a playing has spent over 16 seasons with is always an emotional moment, but for Phoenix Coyotes’ captain, Shane Doan; it just might be a reality as the player remains an unrestricted free agent and is forced
to consider his options.
Doan is definitely the lifeline of the Phoenix Coyotes as he single handed, led the team to their first ever appearance in the Stanley Cup Playoffs Western Conference Finals against Los Angeles Kings along with topping the Pacific Division.
"It's heartbreaking for him," Doan’s agent, Terry Bross, said. "Heartbreaking."
At the age of 35, Doan definitely has a bright and long future still ahead of him to look forward to, but who he will do it with is the question on everyone’s mind at the moment. Drafted as the seventh overall back in round-one of the 1995 National Hockey
League (NHL) Entry Draft by the original Winnipeg Jets, Doan is a major reason why hockey is still in the desert of Phoenix.
After not getting anything solid from Phoenix Coyotes as of yet, his agent has termed the beginning of the looking around process to begin as soon as this upcoming Tuesday.
“I expect by Tuesday we’ll probably start listening to some offers, get an idea of where he kind of fits in the market, and take that next step,” said Bross. “I wouldn’t say anything’s imminent.”
One this which has Doan on the verge of leaving is because of an unstable ownership, meaning that there is no one present to look into the matters of the team. He literally termed that to be the reason as to why there was so much discrimination against them
during the playoffs, including Raffi Torres getting an uncalled for 25-game suspension.
Bross added that if an ownership would be taking over soon, the veteran forward could reconsider signing with the team, but on his own terms.
“Pending the outcome of that conversation, it could go one of two ways,” Bross said. “I would think if they don’t have the signatures and it looks like the Jamison thing is going to go (through), then Don and I would get a little more serious in our dialogue
about a new contract.”
