Phoenix Coyotes' captain Shane Doan reminiscences about intense playoffs and elimination-NHL Update
Being an inch away from the Stanley Cup Finals and not being able to grab the opportunity when you have it is something that always haunts a player, but then there are the good memories that make it all better.
For Phoenix Coyotes’ captain, Shane Doan, there are definitely a number of things he would have changed if given a chance and some he would have kept just the way they were.
One thing that really makes Shane Doan regret his actions is the incident involving him and Los Angeles Kings’ captain, Dustin Brown. The Kings skipper knocked down Doan during their final matchup of the 2012 National Hockey League (NHL) Stanley Cup Western
Conference Playoff Finals and tried to apologise during their handshake session, but Doan was just too out of it to listen to anything he had to say.
"We went to do the handshake and he was trying to explain and I said "Not now!' then he said 'Come on' and tried again and I said "No, not right now,' and that was it, Doan said."That's really all it was.”
"But there is so much respect for the handshake line in our sport, and I feel the same way, you want to control your emotions and handle it with class. As one of the leaders, you can act that way and I know that. I'm usually pretty controlled with that stuff,”
he added.
Doan came out on Thursday, May 24, 2012, in front of the media and apologised indirectly to Los Angeles Kings and Dustin Brown especially for his comments after the game. He also congratulated Los Angeles and gave them his best wishes as they prepare to
battle it out against either New Jersey Devils or New York Rangers in the Stanley Cup Finals.
Now, Phoenix has other things to take care of, one being that Coyote the finalisation of their team being sold to former San Jose Sharks CEO Greg Jamison.
Next season will definitely be one Shane Doan is looking forward to as he hopes to make a repeat and next time, take the Stanley Cup for sure.
