Phoenix Coyotes’ Brett MacLean recovering well after cardiac arrest
Phoenix Coyotes’ Right winger Brett MacLean is improving health and recovering well after he suffered a cardiac arrest while playing a recreational Ice-Hockey game with friends at Owen Sound,
Ontario. He collapsed on the field and had to revived by a CPR and an automated external defibrillator.
Luckily for him Jason Gallagher and Jason Silverthorn were also there who immediately performed a CPR on him and there was one firefighter there watching the game in the stands who called 911
for help and located a portable defibrillator.
Within three minutes of the incident, MacLean’s heart was given shocks as paramedics team arrived and gave him two more shocks to get his heart started once again. Fortunately for MacLean,
when he fell on the ground, his fellow players on the field and those in the stands reacted the best possible way and did what was the best for him. Had they reacted a little slowly or differently, they might not have prevented and stopped something from happening
which would have been a great loss and a tragedy.
23 year-old Brett MacLean’s mother, Karen MacLean is very happy to see her son recovering and getting better with time. She told her son is improving hourly and has started walking through
the hospital halls. He would be going through some more tests to find out what made his heart stop.
She was also very thankful to all those who helped his son and made sure they (mother and son) don’t sepearate by MacLean leaving this world. Mrs. Karen said, “We're eternally grateful to them,”
Karen said of those who helped. “Jason [Gallagher] was just here [at the hospital] and we were able to thank him, but thanking them really doesn't do it justice. We can't express how grateful we are for everything they did.”
Phoenix Coyotes are also keeping an eye on their player, hoping he gets fit soon and joins them by again. Coyotes General Manager Don Maloney said, “We have been in contact with Brett's family
and the hospital over the past week and the reports are that he is doing well and his condition is improving. Brett will continue to undergo tests with the cardiology team at University Hospital in London, Ontario."
