Phoenix Coyotes Captain Shane Doan's Stanley Cup dreams put on standby -NHL Update
Shane Doan, one of the most capable and veteran players in the National Hockey League (NHL), waited 17 years to get this far and was just an inch away from making the Stanley Cup Finals.
The Phoenix Coyotes captain’s hopes and dreams to hoist the Stanley Cup high above his shoulders were put once again on standby as Los Angeles Kings eliminated them in Game 5 of the 2012 NHL Stanley Cup Western Conference Playoff Finals, but his optimism
is still alive.
"When you win, you're another step closer," Doan said. "When you lose, it's that much more painful. I think the emotion that goes along with it gets even higher. I'm loving it. It's been great."
Seeing how Los Angeles Kings have been performing in the postseason thus far, taking them down would definitely require a miracle. Taking the divisional title for the first time in Phoenix’s history along with making the Western Conference Finals is something
he should definitely be proud of and certainly is.
"I don't want to take anything away from them. They beat us. Their players played unbelievable. You look at [Anze] Kopitar, you look at [Mike] Richards, you look at [Jeff] Carter, that [Dwight] King, he played unbelievable. Jarrett Stoll played great. [Drew]
Doughty was unbelievable. [Jonathan] Quick was great. They were so well-coached. They are a great team and they are rolling right now," Doan added.
Doan has played all but one seasons of his career with Phoenix Coyotes. The only one without them was with the original Winnipeg Jets back in 1995-1996, with whom he kicked off his hockey career in the major league being picked as the seventh overall during
round-one of the 1995 NHL Entry Draft.
The Halkirk, Alberta, Canada native, has a total of 1,198 games under his belt along with 788 points (318 goals, 470 assists).
Next season will definitely be one to look forward to for Phoenix Coyotes and Shane Doan as they continue to fight for the most coveted prize in the hockey world. Improving on their weaknesses is something Phoenix has decided to do and will have to if they
aim to get anywhere near where they were this year.
