Phoenix Coyotes Shane Doan expresses desire to stay in Arizona -NHL Update
Good news for the Phoenix Coyotes and fans of the Arizona based team as disgruntled captain, Shane Doan, has expressed his desire once again that he wants to stay with his original draft team but has not officially done the deed just yet.
While Doan has left a margin for error, there is still no confirmation that he will definitely sign with Phoenix Coyotes after becoming an unrestricted free agent on July 1st. He is still yet to see how the team’s ownership issues will play out
only then will the veteran forward decides what is best for him as a player.
Whatever teams around the National Hockey League (NHL) are offering him, Doan’s heart is still with Phoenix Coyotes.
"Right now I'm doing everything I can to stay there and that's kind of my goal," Doan said in an interview with TSN. "At the same time, I'm having to do some due diligence, now in the fact that the longer it takes the more likely and the harder it seems
to be to get a deal done in Phoenix."
In recent days, Doan was reportedly in meeting with a number of teams including New York Rangers, Philadelphia Flyers and even Vancouver Canucks. Some said that he might even be going to Los Angeles to play with Kings but so far no confirmation from the
player’s side has emerged in that regard.
Family is his top priority when it comes to make a final decision on where he may be playing for the upcoming years of his hockey career.
"For me it's going to be about my family and the right situation for us and the right situation for me as a player to have a chance to win and enjoy the game. And I think that's a big part of it is being in the right spot and enjoying it. There's obviously
a few teams that fit that," Doan added.
Shane Doan has 1,198 games under his belt. Along with 788 points (318 goals, 470 assists) the 35-year-old has 1,071 penalty minutes in the box and has a number of years ahead of him still remaining to play.
