Phoenix Coyotes’ Shane Doan to miss time with lower-body injury
If there’s anyone in the National Hockey League who has had a rough start to the 2010-11 season, it’s right-winger Shane Doan of the Phoenix Coyotes.
The Coyotes’ long-time captain, who has provided the team with several years of grit, goals, and veteran leadership, has been sidelined with an undisclosed lower-body injury. He sustained
the injury during a game against the Dallas Stars on Friday, 5 November, when he fell awkwardly after a mix-up along the boards with the Stars’ Nicklas Grossman.
Doan, who had been playing his hardest during the game, notched his first goal of the season just before his fall.
“It’s part of hockey and it’s something I have to deal with and I will be ready to go when I come back,” Doan told the Coyotes’ official website. “I hope to be back sooner than later…
We’re getting on it in a hurry here, and we’ll get it going, and I’ll be back quickly.”
Doan is listed as week-to-week with the injury, and he will not travel with the rest of the team when they face the Detroit Red Wings and Chicago Blackhawks.
The injury marks the second time this season that Doan has missed some action, as he had also received a three-game suspension for a hit to the head of Anaheim Ducks forward Dan Sexton
in a game that was played on 17 October.
“It’s disappointing,” Doan said of missing more games. “This is not how I planned the start of my year to go. I don’t like missing hockey games. I can’t wait to come back, contribute and
help out.”
The Desert Dogs are coming off of a 6-3 loss to the Dallas Stars, and they hope to get back into the wins column when they face the Detroit Red Wings at the Joe Louis Arena on Monday,
8 November.
