Phoenix Coyotes climb back with 5-4 win over Vancouver Canucks -NHL Update
Phoenix was facing some troubling times by being stuck in the middle of the Western Conference between a number of team wanting to take the final playoff spot, but Coyotes acted fast to move up into seventh with a 5-4 win over second place Vancouver Canucks,
5-4, Wednesday night, March 14, 2012, at the sold-out Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
Roberto Luongo, the Vancouver goalie, was looking confused and tired in the net for Canucks which had him falling short on five of 33 shots, something that fans have not witnessed much of this season.
Mike Smith on the other hand was full on blocking every shot as he was 10 more than Luongo with 43 attempts but failed to block just four to keep Vancouver out during a major chunk of the contest.
Alex Burrows inaugurated the scoring with his 24th of the 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL), followed by Ryan Kesler’s 22nd on a power play opportunity nearly midway through the first.
Phoenix unluckily gave two straight penalties as Michal Rozsival and Taylor Pyatt were booked for hooking and had Vancouver looking for any scoring opportunity.
Coyotes answered back with Rostislav Klesla and captain Shane Doan scoring two straight to level the game shockingly, silencing the crowd of nearly 19,000 in an instant.
Oliver Ekman-Larsson fired off the power play goal at 7:58 for Phoenix to take the lead, but was again levelled with David Booth this time on the added man advantage, but Coyotes were not about to give up just yet as Gilbert Brule made the tie-breaker for
the visitors at 18:41.
The power play eventually gave Phoenix the match as Antoine Vermette potted their third goal with the extra skater on board 1:38 into the third to widen the gap after which Dan Hamhuis scored for Vancouver with less than eight minutes remaining, which would
be their last.
Phoenix is hoping to continue rolling on their three game Canadian road trip, with the next against Calgary Flames on Thursday.
Vancouver Canucks have Columbus Blue Jackets visiting them on Saturday, which should not be an issue and will most definitely be an easy two point game.
